Gate Installer Training

Linkcare Teams Up With HSL To Deliver Professional Gate Automation Installer Training

Linkcare is delighted to have partnered with training experts HSL to provide comprehensive, professional training for anyone involved in gate automation.

HSL's goal is to deliver, professional and relevant, practically biased, technical instruction that empowers installers with the skills, knowledge and confidence to carry out safe and compliant installations.

HSL has been offering training to the gate industry since 2013. This was driven by the goal to provide industry-wide training schemes designed to increase levels of safety in the powered automatic gates sector. With an increase in automated gate technology over recent years it is important that installers are able to show they understand the risks involved and ensure electric gates are installed correctly. This not only saves lives but will reduce the chances of legal proceedings for injuries or deaths that result from poorly installed electric gates.

The HSL gate automation installer course is outlined below. You can check availability and dates of the next courses here

HSL began development of the GID course in June 2018, with the first course held in Manchester in November 2018.

The GID course aims to instruct and assess technically skilled candidates, in four key areas (skills) relating to the safe installation of equipment and controls for the automation of gates.

The GID now incorporates the DHF 1 day Automated Gate Safety Certificate. Please click here for more information.

Each element of training is carried out by a qualified instructor, with practical industry experience in their field.

The GID course concludes with a closed book final written assessment, assessing candidate retention of information over the past 5 days.

Throughout the week, each candidate is tasked with completing paperwork relating to their installation. This paperwork is then retained as evidence alongside the written and practical assessment results. HSL are then able to identify and advise each candidate of areas requiring further training.

Training Outcomes:

  • To demonstrate a sound knowledge of the legal and practical safety requirements relating to the automation of gates.
  • To demonstrate the ability to risk assess and apply control measures, ensuring safe site working practices for the protection of both operatives and the public.
  • To demonstrate industry recognised MMA welding techniques with relation to the fitting of gate automation products to gates.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of EAWR and legislation surrounding work on electrical supplies.
  • To demonstrate the practical skills required to safely isolate electrical equipment and use of test equipment to ‘prove’ and certify.
  • To practically apply the key elements covered to an installation.
  • To test the installation, critique the results and to comment on how any anomalies may be remedied.
